Trip Planning Software - Redundant In Times Of Google Maps?Category: Travel & Holidays Article added by: Manuel Müllers
Trip planners are computer programs that are especially good at calculating the route between a certain starting point and an target point. Many of these programs can perform this calculation according to some pre-defined criteria. The most intuitive of these criteria are the fastest, the shortest, and the optimal route. The backbone of these trip planning programs are geographic information systems that contain detailed street maps in a digital format and some other information necessary to plan a route.
There are trip planners for the Computer, and mobile trip planners that are usually built into GPS navigation systems. These programs are not for free, but they offer a wide range of features, and high functionality, as they can also be used when there is no internet connection. The dependency on the internet is the main weak point of free internet trip planners like Google maps although they accurately calculate a trip plan that can be printed easily. This, if one does not stick to the highest extent to the trip plan in printed form, chances are that one will never find the way back.
In addition, offline route planning systems offer features such as excellent hotel and restaurant guides. They can also take into account weather and traffic information when being connected to the internet. Some even offer small city and language guides, and have built-in GPS functionality. Thus, they make getting from A to B as easy and convenient as it can be.
