As the world (Britain) continues to veer into some kind of economic and labour-led melt down, one that is seeing jobs continually being cut in almost all sectors worthy of entering education for, it seems that many international factors have coincided to sift through the filter and result in a recruitment push of public transport workers, of late. This could be down to several, less vague factors.

One is that with the gradual but painful increase in petrol prices over the last however many years, bus services, for instance, have found that rather than being hit, they are seeing an increase in what could be termed ‘passenger participation’. As the number of passengers goes up, so do the services provided, some times to the point where fifteen minute services now become ten or even five minute services. This means that more drivers are needed and the recruitment drive has been noticeable on the street.

Bus driving is now, as it once was decades ago, touted as a career opportunity, as many other career opportunities in previously more respected professions are being shipped off to foreign shores or just being made obsolete altogether. The services and the private companies that run them â€" in addition to the council run public services â€" are offering good sturdy working class wages, reliable pension schemes, and work for a younger force that can be seen as a lifelong commitment.

Petrol prices rise, as do city centre parking prices (it is the spaces that decrease, as if they are being auctioned on), and so more and more people see the obvious solution lying in public transport â€" relatively inexpensive for the needs of the usual commuter, and extremely convenient â€" more and more so as the services increase.

So, with this shift in the mood of the public and the companies that run the services, bus driving can not only now be viewed as a good career, but it is an enjoyable one, with good benefits and the respect of the public.
