Three Ways to a Sensational SabbaticalCategory: Travel & Holidays Article added by: Paul Collins
Jobs – even the best ones can become a little tiring after a while; and it sometimes seems like you spend all your time working and not enough time living. Everyone dreams about packing it all in for a bit and going off on a few months’ sabbatical.
But it needn’t necessarily be a pipedream, and – if you do something worthwhile and focus on meaningful travel – it doesn’t have to be a purely hedonistic, escapist tour, either. After all, what employer doesn’t want to see their staff members coming back from a sabbatical rested and, just maybe, with a raft of new life skills?
So without further ado, here are three ways to a sensational sabbatical:
1. Join all the other volunteers overseas in Costa Rica
Volunteering is perhaps the first thing that people who are looking to make a bit of a difference consider when thinking of options for their sabbatical. And few places have as many well-developed volunteer schemes as Costa Rica.
There are plenty of other volunteers overseas in Costa Rica helping on crucial environmental schemes, working on programs to improve their farming infrastructure and teaching English. Tie in the volunteering with a bit of exploring one of Central America’s most beautiful countries, and you’ve got one seriously rewarding sabbatical on your hands!
2. Enroll in a German course in Berlin
Berlin’s hot right now. It’s been bubbling over nicely for some time, and now it is, frankly, very much the European capital of the moment. And there’s simply no better way to get under the skin of this exciting, vibrant city than by doing a German course in Berlin.
But the best thing about doing a German course in Berlin, is that, after a few months of studying and, let’s face it, having a great time, your employer will welcome you back with open arms for the new language skills you’re bringing to the company!
3. Explore the Wonders of Italy
On the face of it, going off and backpacking round Italy might seem like a slightly more self-indulgent sabbatical. There are the fabulous cities – Rome, Venice, Florence, Milan – each one seemingly more exciting than the last; then there’s sensational countryside and amazing food at every turn…
If you tie in all the sightseeing, eating, drinking and having a good time, though, with a bit of good old fashioned studying on your travels (or viaggi studio as they’d put it), then, hey presto, you’ve got a sabbatical on your hands that no employer could sniff at!
