Six Things to do in Tenerife: A Roundup of Tenerife AttractionsCategory: Travel & Holidays Article added by: Paul Collins
Tenerife isn’t so much a top holiday destination as a veritable paradise for holidaymakers. From its beautiful beaches, to its luxury hotels and world-class golf courses, here are just a handful of things that will make a Tenerife trip the trip of a lifetime.
1. Bask on a Beach
If there’s one thing that Tenerife’s well-known for, it’s beaches. Tenerife beaches, though, are just that little bit different from those you’ll find elsewhere, as many are made up of striking black volcanic sand.
Regardless of their color, the beaches in Tenerife are superb. Right across the island there are amazing beaches to choose from, whether it’s Playa Bollullo in the north, El Medano in the south, Las Teresitas to the east, and the infamous Playa de las Americas to the west.
What’s more the weather in Tenerife is pretty outstanding all year round, so you can slip away from the cold and grey of a Northern European winter, and be sunning yourself on the beach in January.
2. Eat Papas Arrugadas
Given how cosmopolitan a holiday destination Tenerife is, it can sometimes seem a little difficult to find anything that can really be considered local food. But ‘papas arrugadas con mojo’ are definitely worth seeking out. Essentially, just a crinkle-cut chip with a selection of sauces on the side, it’s simple, but undeniably delicious.
3. Be Pampered in a Top Class Hotel
Hotels in Tenerife are world-renowned for their quality. In Santa Cruz, the Sheraton Mencey is always a good bet for that special stay, while over to the west of the island, the Hotel Abama Villas is a favorite amongst Spanish holidaymakers on their luxury viajes Tenerife (or Tenerife trips).
4. Go Whale-watching
Whale watching in Tenerife has become increasingly popular in recent years. Boats take tourists out to the west of the main island to the island of La Gomera (often escorted by dolphins as they do so). Here, there are generally guaranteed sightings of the huge underwater mammals.
5. Take the Cable Car up Mount Teide
Mount Teide isn’t just the major tourist attraction in Tenerife, it’s a symbol of the island itself, and rising up at its center, it’s a dazzling spectacle. Taking the cable car up to the top and checking out the stunning panoramic views takes some beating, though!
6. Go for a Round of Golf
As you’d expect from such a well-established tourist destination, Tenerife’s got golf courses. And not your average, bog-standard ones, either: golf courses in Tenerife are uniformly excellent. Of these, a couple of standout examples include: the Royal Tenerife’s Golf del Sur and the Abama.
