Seven Steps to a Heavenly Cancun TripCategory: Travel & Holidays Article added by: Paul Collins
1. Stay in a luxury Cancun hotel
The first thing anyone on a Cancun trip should look to do is make sure they book the hotel of their dreams. While hotels in Cancun are universally fabulous, the Riu Cancun is extremely popular with all manner of Spanish holidaymakers on their viajes Caribe (or Caribbean trips!) and is one of the very best places in town.
2. Bask on a Beach
A Caribbean trip wouldn’t be a Caribbean trip if there weren’t some sensational strips of sand involved somewhere along the way. Thankfully, Cancun beaches more than deliver in this respect: all along the coast of Quintana Roo there are white sands and warm blue waters… it’s paradise!
3. Hit the Markets
With a bit of Spanish under your belt, and the desire to haggle, Cancun markets can be a lot of fun. Market 28 is the most famous: noisy, chaotic and colorful, it’s nevertheless a great day out. Just be prepared to come away laden down with a load of junk you didn’t really want!
4. Party Like There’s no Tomorrow
Cancun nightlife is famous. Infamous, in fact. And with every passing year, it seems to get more unrestrained, as another rash of bars and clubs open up. But from the big name super-clubs on the Boulevard Kakulcan to more tranquil beachside bars and elegant hotel cocktail bars, there really is something for everyone.
5. Check out Chichen Itza
About 2 ½ hours’ drive from Cancun lie the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza. One of the most iconic monuments of antiquity, it’s an absolute must-see for any holidaymaker in Cancun. And a highlight? The Kukulcan Pyramid is peerless in its majestic scale, and for the undeniable aura that hangs around it.
6. Take a Trip to Tulum
And, as if one magnificent historic monument wasn’t enough, Cancun is within easy reach of another: the awe-inspiring Tulum. While not perhaps quite as impressive as Chichen Itza, Tulum is notable for its centerpiece – El Castillo – (once a mighty lighthouse) with its sensational views out into the blue Caribbean Sea.
7. Dive from Cozumel
The sparkling blue waters off the coast of Quintana Roo are full of marine life, and there’s some fantastic snorkeling to be had just off Cancun itself. For some of the very best diving in the Caribbean, though, Cozumel (still not far from Cancun) is the place to head for.
