Average salaries for the various disciplines of science are generally quite uniform in the UK. There are slight variations between the different specialisations, but they are predominantly similar, and all very good salaries.

Scientists specialising in the field of chemistry can expect to start their career earning between £18,000 and £26,000 per year depending on the position. Senior chemists can earn around £28,000 to £35,000 per year. Specialist positions such as that of the nuclear chemist can earn up to £50,000 per year, indicating that chemists can earn an excellent wage indeed. Biologists can expect their salary to begin at around £18,000 per year for less experienced individuals, with experienced and highly qualified biologists earning up to £40,000 per year. The more specialised area of biomedical science provides a salary between £20,000 and £60,000 per year, depending on experience, level of education and the specific position.

Inexperienced graduates can expect to earn the lower end of the pay-scale, whereas highly experienced scientists holding a PhD can expect the high end of the mark.
Forensic science workers can earn as low as £16,000 per year for a forensic assistant. This figure moves up to around £18,000 per year for forensic reporting officers, and after around three years of experience, a reporting officer can earn up to £25,000 per year. For highly experienced senior reporting officers, the salary can reach around £45,000 per year.
Forensics is not the highest paying career on average, but still provides a good salary. Physicists earn an average of £32,000 per year, but salaries can be anywhere between £20,000 and £55,000 per year depending again on education, experience and position.
Technicians would earn the lower salaries, while PhD graduates with years of research experience would earn a very high salary. Like physicists, environmental scientists earn an average of £32,000 per annum.

Salaries for the environmental scientist can rage between £20,000 and £50,000 per year. As with all other positions, pay is determined by experience, education, and your job title. Other specialisations in science can earn similar wages to those specified above. Science seems to be a high paying profession in the UK, and rightly so, due to all the skills and knowledge needed to carry out the complex, challenging everyday tasks of a scientist.
