Qualifications - EducationCategory: Business Article added by: Jon Richards
There are a few steps that must be accomplished in order for a candidate to become a fully qualified teacher. Firstly, depending on the country, teaching qualifications are affected by aspects such as: region, local community, type of institution and standards for each location. Every organization that relates to the educational field will only employ candidates who have acquired a teaching diploma; other types of qualifications, such as language or business-related diplomas are not taken into consideration. Sometimes, private schools are allowed to hire teachers without required qualifications, but overall, this happens rarely. To obtain a qualification in teaching, a person must follow a postgraduate course in education or a standard course in education which can be studied at various institutions.
The main diplomas needed are the postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) or the PhD in education. Also, there are options for graduates to be placed in a work setting where they could obtain valuable experience with teaching. This could lead to a full-time position.
The primary teaching positions are available to all candidates but for employment, the candidate must have a specialised qualification in areas such as: language, culture, biology, mathematics, etc. Some opportunities to work overseas are available for teachers who would like to experience a new country and culture while also learning a new language in the process. The preparation and instruction that leads a candidate to become a teacher involves experience with pupils/students in educational settings. To find out about this opportunity, candidates should appoint meetings with school representatives and ask for permission to be present whenever teaching takes place in classes. This could offer the prospect of talking with other teachers, knowing about their responsibilities, obtaining advice about specific tasks that must be accomplished, etc. Even offering assistance during class could open an opportunity for obtaining experience and maybe a job offer in the long term.
Successful teachers must have proven skills such as: strong communication and listening skills, organizational time-saving skills, artistic skills, problem-solving skills, positive attitude, successfully dealing with complaints, optimistic approach, patience, self-control, the ability to make lessons interesting and rewarding, playful, collected, etc. Further skills related to arts, computer and foreign languages are equally beneficial.
