People who learned English as a child and need the neccessary skills to teach that language to people who have almost no knowledge of the English language need a TEFL degreet. TEFL is the abbreviation for "Intensive Teach Englisch as a foreing Language".
The techniques of TEFL are different from the way English is teched in school. A TEFL course is the basis to become an English teacher. They cover the language basics as grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary and also administrative topics like teaching different cultures and management of a lassroom. You need these basics in order to delivcer good work to your students. Even if you are a native English speaker - how many grammer rules do you know yourself? How will you structure a lesson and how will you treat people of different cultures and different levels of understanding the English language? All those questions should be answered by a good TEFL course.
There are similar course for other languages as well. In Germany you need a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreing Language) exam in order to proove your skills in English language. In Germany TOEFL is the fundamental for providing english or german translation services. If you plan to work for an English speaking company, you need a TOEFL exam in order to proove your language skills.
