Why is it that people are afraid to admit to need? Everyone had, at some point, found themselves in the situation of being alone in a crowd. This is a more common feeling than a lot of people realize, and the truth of the matter is that, in any crowd, there are probably just as many people who feel alone as there are those who feel otherwise. What is it that prevents these people from simply talking to each other, and together defeating that painful sensation of being alone in the world?

It’s a simple thing, really. If you are alone, it means that you have no friends. If you have no friends there must be something about you that prevents you from having them, and therefore you aren’t worth talking to. Loneliness begets itself in a vicious positive feedback loop. New people are, through no fault of their own, disconnected from the social life of the city, and because they are afraid to admit their friendless state, they are likely to stay that way.
