Online Travel Auctions: Bid Your Way to a Bargain BreakCategory: Travel & Holidays Article added by: Paul Collins
The first question that for any people has to be answered is: What exactly is an online travel auction? The answer is, in fact, perfectly straightforward: in the same way that you might bid for a painting or a set of fine china in an auction house, so too can you set the price of your holiday in online travel auctions.
And it’s not just package holidays that you can bid for. You can make an offer on every possible travel product (or permutation of travel products), whether it’s a quick business flight, a weekend hotel break, or a luxury cruise, there are more than enough different ‘lots’ to meet most people’s demands.
Who are the major players?
First came the awareness of online travel auctions; then, as people became more familiar with what they offered, came the popularity. These days, there are a number of inviting sites to choose from. Travel-quest.co.uk is a handy travel auctions directory site, while Travelauction.com is extremely popular amongst Australian holidaymakers.
Two really big players, though, are Skyauction (which is the place to go for some of the most enticing prices on flights) and LuxuryLink. Luxury by name, luxury by nature, LuxuryLink offers some of the most outstanding high-end travel packages to be found on the net.
But, actually, when you get down to it, price-wise there are a couple of compelling reasons for non-English speaking holidaymakers to be cheerful. These come in the form of two online travel auction sites: Nouvelles-frontieres.com and Logitravel.com.
Nouvelles-frontieres.com is a French travel auction site whose various different ‘encheres’ bring together some very attractive travel lots; Logitravel, meanwhile, offers a range of travel auctions, or subasta viajes, that for savings are out there in a league all of their own.
Getting down to figures
Although bidding for your holiday is a lot more interesting than just taking the price offered, there’s one really strong case for online travel auctions: the money you can save. Obviously how much you can save depends on what you’re bidding for (and who with), but typical savings can vary from a tempting 50% to a frankly flabbergasting 100%.
And that, ultimately, is pretty much that. Online travel auctions started slowly, but they’ve come to the boil nicely in recent years. If you take into account the large amounts of money you can save on your holiday that can only be a good thing.
