Working within public relations will be difficult. The pace is often fast and the role will be extremely stressful. You will need to have a lot of flexibility, as your day can often change at short notice. You will also have to have very good problem solving skills, as you will often be handed challenging situations. Tensions can run high in public relations and you need to be able to handle this, not taking anything personally and being able to fix issues quickly. You can have a lot of responsibility and you have to be able to handle this.

You have to be able to work alone, as lots of the time you will be given tasks and you will be expected to complete them on your own. You have to be able to organise your own day effectively, making sure you complete every task that needs to be done. You need to be able to prioritise your workload, making sure everything is completed to a high standard and to the satisfaction of your client. You will need to have a good relationship with your client so you can understand their needs well.

You will have to have very good communication skills to work well in this role. You will be dealing with people every day, and you need to be able to hold a conversation with people you do not know. You have to have the ability to get your facts across correctly, without any errors. This means you need to also be able to listen well, taking down information you have been given and relaying it correctly. You won't be able to make any mistakes, and so you need to have very good attention to detail. You may be required to partake in some form of public speaking, so you have to be able to convey information in a clear and concise manner.
