Jobs as a Sports CoachCategory: Business Article posted by: Jon Richards
Many people enjoy playing sports, so why not combine your interest with earning some money too. What better way to do something you love and get paid for it while you are doing it.
While being good at a sport puts you ahead at being able to coach it, you will also need some qualifications to go with that.
If you are a member of a certain sports club already, you will often already be registered in their governing body, therefore that cost will firstly be spared. Also, if the club values your skills an really wants you to coach its youth, they will often pay for you to undergo the necessary courses and gain the qualifications needed for you to succeed in being a sports coach.
There are all sorts of levels of coaching, depending on which sport it is you are entering into coaching with. Depending on the level you qualify at will depend on your pay. Most coaches start out as assistants and on minimum wage, but as you go on more courses, gain more qualifications and gain more experience, you will then increase in demand and be on more money.
At amateur level, I would say you could coach comfortably on a part time wage sort of salary, however, once entering professional sport, the salary expectations are endless. Look at hugely famous football coaches for example Alex Ferguson, getting paid hundreds of thousands a week to coach the premiership teams. Obviously this is a long way away if you are just starting out, but if you are determined enough and have the skills and want to be of this level, then there really is not anything stopping you.
Go on line on to sports clubs websites, or visit local sporting teams in your area. They will give you information about upcoming courses and whether they need extra coaches and then you can go from there. Offering voluntary experience in local clubs will also be beneficial to you in both that you will experience coaching and also will put yourself ahead when looking for a job down the line.
