Frequent Flyer Programs: Choose Carefully and it Can Save You a FortuneCategory: Travel & Holidays Article added by: Paul Collins
It doesn’t matter if you’re a high-flying city executive, jetting from one of the world’s great financial centers to another, or a humble backpacker making their way round Europe by plane, everyone likes frequent flyer programs. What could be better than getting rewarded for traveling?
But if most frequent flyer programs are almost like getting a return on an investment, it’s not necessarily the case that all the schemes out there are identical. Some are obviously better than others, and it’s important to choose the right frequent flyer program for you, so that you can see those frequent flyer points come rolling in.
Big Journeys Equal Big Points
The first step should be to keep abreast of what’s going on out there in the (sometimes confusing) world of frequent flyer programs. A good starting point, especially for American frequent flyers, is the site Frequentflier.com, a source of excellent impartial advice, forum chat, and all the latest news and views on the subject.
Another excellent place to go when looking for an informed opinion on how to choose the right frequent flyer program is Webflyer.com. As a general rule, the site is more focused on the Australian and American flyer, but there’s still plenty of handy info there, not least a mileage converter that shows you how much your air miles add up to in points.
That’s not to say that the US and Australia have a monopoly on frequent flyer programs. There are any number of travel websites, credit card companies, and, of course, the airlines themselves, who are queuing up to reward regular air passengers in Europe.
Using Other Languages to Rack Up the Points
As is so often the case with shopping around on the internet, there are plenty of interesting options on frequent flyer programs for those air travelers who speak a little Spanish (or indeed Italian and Portuguese). Logitravel has, for a number of years, been attracting the plaudits – and the customers – with the rewards they offer their regularly returning air passengers.
And if their frequent flyer programs are good, then their flight deals themselves are sublime. Their offers on vuelos Tenerife Madrid (flights from Tenerife to Madrid) will really drive down the overall cost of a holiday. Spanish businessmen looking to attend meetings in London, meanwhile, are increasingly taking advantage of the low prices of their Madrid to London flights, or vuelos Madrid Londres.
Frequent Flyer Programs: What to Watch Out for
The first caveat is a fairly self-explanatory one: When it comes to choosing an airline to travel with frequently, and thus, to pick up their frequent flyer points, it’s important to ensure that they fly to all the destinations you’ll be needing to fly to. There’s nothing more frustrating after all, than having to use an airline that’s not affiliated with your frequent flyer program, because your regular choice isn’t coming up with your destination.
It’s also a really good idea to use your points as quickly as possible, and not leave them sitting around doing nothing. Airlines and travel companies have been to known to change the terms of their frequent flyer programs, so keep an eye out for any developments, too.
But really, when it comes to frequent flyer programs, there’s really not much that can go wrong. The premise is really pretty simple, the more money you hand over to an airline or travel company, the more points they give you as a reward. And, at the end of the day, who’s going to argue that they don't deserve a little reward from time to time?
