Five of the Best: A Roundup of What to Do in TenerifeCategory: Travel & Holidays Article added by: Paul Collins
A trip to Tenerife is probably most associated with a couple of weeks’ flop and drop holiday on the beach – and very nice it is, too! But it doesn’t have to be like that, as from its excellent zoo to an afternoon’s shopping or a day on the golf course, there’s more than enough to keep you busy.
1. Check in to a Terrific Tenerife Hotel:
First things first, though, you’ve got to get the basics right. And when the ‘basics’ you’re talking about are as glamorous and ultra-luxurious as the perfect Tenerife hotel, it alone almost qualifies as a high point of a Tenerife trip.
Picking a handful of hotels in Tenerife out of a possible cast of thousands is nigh on impossible. But, at a push, the Botanico in Puerto de la Cruz is right up there with the very best. Over to the south of the island, meanwhile, the Iberostar Gran Anthelia is a firm favorite amongst Spanish tourists on their viajes Tenerife (or Tenerife trips).
2. Shop till You Drop in Santa Cruz:
Since taxes in Tenerife are lower than elsewhere, it would almost be rude not to take advantage! The capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, has plenty of great places to choose from on Calle Villalba and around the Plaza de Espana in addition to, not one but two, Corte Ingles department stores.
3. Visit Loro Parque:
At first glance, Loro Parque might seem like a children’s attraction. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. A really excellent zoo, there are dolphins, sea lions, an excellent aquarium, and a penguin enclosure, as well as the perennially popular parrots. A real Tenerife must-see.
4. Get Yourself out on the Golf Course:
They may not be as famous as those you’d find at La Manga, say, but golf in Tenerife has come on in leaps and bounds in recent years. And the proof? The fact that ever greater number of holidaymakers from the Spanish mainland are choosing to come to Tenerife so they can play a round or two at the Abama and the Royal Tenerife’s Golf del Sur. (When you consider the attractive prices of vuelos Tenerife Madrid (or flights from Tenerife to Madrid) it’s not hard to see why, though!)
5. Hit the Beach:
Ok, so this article may have started with the ‘things other than a beach’ premise, but really, there’s no point ignoring a place’s very best assets! After all, if Tenerife has one specialty above all others, it’s beaches.
Since the weather in Tenerife is pretty much flawless 365 days a year, it’s never a bad time to hit the beach in Tenerife. Whether it’s well-known beaches like Las Teresitas and the legendary Playa de las Americas, or the top wind-surfing spot of El Medano, there’s nothing that defines a trip to Tenerife like its fantastic beaches.
