In these times of dire economic straits, there will always be a gloomy cloud of cynicism hanging over the financial sector; people will sneer at those employed within such an industry and cross to the other side of the road. But not all positions are responsible for the economic downturn; there are still opportunities available within the financial services sector that pay a considerable salary and allow you to keep your head high.

For a start, financial advisers can initially earn 19-30k a year and after a few years qualified and gaining more experience, this figure can rise to anywhere from 35-50k a year. But if you’re in the top echelon of financial advice, then you could be in the money yourself and earn a salary from 75-120k a year. And there’d certainly be no need for financial advice from anyone else.

There is also the option of becoming a Bank Manager which has a very handsome salary indeed. The pay rates vary across the nation but, as you might expect, those living in the London area can earn up to 65k a year. For all of the other aspiring Captain Mainwairing’s working their way to managing their own branch, operating in the East Midlands or the North West can pay up to 40k, the South in general pays an average of 32-35k and the East of England 25k.

Should you decide to branch off into a slightly different area then there is always the Insurance sector to consider. The average salary for an insurance claims handler at assistant level in the U.K is 19k and ranges from 30k in the London area to 16k if you reside in the North East. The next level is to become a Claims Technician which can provide a salary of 25-35k with Claims Managers earning anywhere from 40-100k a year. It seems like we need insurance for anything and everything these days and with rewarding salaries such as these, it would be hard to look any further than a career in financial services for a fulfilling career.
