Everybody is different in their own small way. Some people are better at sports and do that for a living, others are natural grafters, some are better at working with their hands and then there are those that take the easy option and become MP’s. But if you happen to be technical in your approach and excel at mathematics then being an engineer could be your destined niche.

And this certainly wouldn’t be a bad career move when you consider that newly graduated engineers are expected to earn in the region of 18-29k a year. This figure can rise dramatically as your skills progress and you gain more invaluable experience as the years drift by. Naturally enough, it all depends on what branch of engineering you are primarily concerned with.

For instance, newly qualified electrical engineers can expect to receive a salary of 17-27k which can rise up to as much as 41k provided you reach senior level. Should you decide that you are more suited to aeronautical engineering then the sky is the limit with regards to salary which starts at 22-30k for new entrants. After gaining between three and five years experience, the potential earnings could sky rocket up to anywhere from 35-55k per annum or even 50-65k at senior level.

The salary rates for civil engineers generally starts from 16-21k for those that are newly qualified and can increase to an average of 25k for graduates under the age of 25. However, should you become associated with the Institution of Civil Engineers (I.C.E) then the potential salary can only get higher from here. Being a technician of the I.C.E can pay up to 37k, being a member can earn you in the region of 52k and fellows of the I.C.E can earn a staggering 81k per year.

Of course, it takes a lot to be an engineer. If you’re not naturally inclined in an engineering way then it probably isn’t the career sector for you. But if you are and rocket science is just rocket science to you, then engineering is a challenging yet lucrative vocation and one definitely worth pursuing.
