Not everything was better in the old days, but many things were different. And still, when your daily grind seems to be getting the better of you, you might yearn to be back in that distant past - at a time when life was lived at a somewhat slower pace... The 'Europa-Sportregion Zell am See-Kaprun' is giving its guests exactly that feeling now. Its 'Nostalgic Package' opens up the gates to a dreamy past. The journey into the realm of history starts from 28th June 2007, a trip for all those who would like to combine the luxury of the present with the charm of our grandfathers' times. And what better way is there to begin this historic journey than by riding on a train that has been running on Austria's rails for about a century?

During the summer months an old steam engine runs from Zell am See to Mittersill - a distance of about 30 kilometres - every Thursday. From 10 a.m. the iron horse puffs the typical black smoke from its funnel while slowly pushing along the rails. And that colossus made of steel also takes its time on the way back so that its passengers have all the time in the world to marvel at the Alpine panorama passing by their window. The journey from station to station takes the best part of 75 minutes.

But of course, the nostalgic train is not the only vehicle to be marvelled at. Every Friday Vötters Vehicle Museum invites for a tour of its collection of vintage cars right in the middle of Kaprun. Since 1996 the halls of the museum have been housing more than 130 motorized treasures, with some exhibits from the early Fifties among them. Apart from cars like the legendary Isetta, there is even an underground glacier railway among those long-serving means of transport. It is called 'Gletscherdrache', which is 'glaicer dragon' in English. Guided tours of the grounds, which cover 9,000 square metres of floor space, start at 11 a.m. and are rounded off with a lunch.

The region has conserved its history in the town centre of Zell. The local history museum is located in the oldest building in town, 'Kastnerturm'. This tower was first mentioned in a document in the year 926 AD. The museum invites visitors every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to go on a tour of the 'ancestral halls' of Pinzgau. As in the case of Vötters Vehicle Museum, a guided tour of this museum is included in the price of the new holiday package.

A pleasure trip on Lake Zell stands for fun in the open air. MS Schmittenhöhe, the jewel in the fleet of Schmittenhöhebahn AG, carries her passengers across the deeply blue waters quite comfortably while they are enjoying the view of the local mountains of the region. And the best about it: on the 'Nostalgic Package', this luxury does not cost a single cent extra either. Which, by the way, also applies to travelling to the 2,000-metre top of Schmittenhöhe on the lifts and cable cars.

Till 13th September 2007, the guests of the 'Europa-Sportregion' can enjoy the countless advantages of this history-steeped offer to the full. No matter whether you stay for three days or seven - 'history lessons' in Zell am See and Kaprun have never been cheaper or more enjoyable before.
