Austria's Mecca for all those who indulge in snowboardingKategorie: Travel & Holidays Veröffentlicht von: knoefler-journalist . media + communications GmbH
Snowboarding means freedom, thrills, and sportiness. For fans of this white fun, standing on a board is the absolute delight of the winter season. Leaving behind the daily grind and dashing down a mountain slope at full speed or doing acrobatic tricks at metre-high obstacles - that is what makes this sport so attractive to the snowboarding community. But what would this cult item of winter sports equipment be without a suitable surface to run on? There are already more than 60 centimetres of finest fresh powder snow on the pistes of the 'Europa-Sportregion Zell am See-Kaprun' to ride your board on.
Hobby sportsmen as well as the pros of the sport choose their locations with care. Many of them count Zell am See and Kaprun among the top addresses. In the winter paradise of Pinzgau, 132 kilometres of crisp downhill runs, majestic obstacles, and finest powder snow are ready and waiting as early as in October. On Salzburg's only glacier, you can be one of the first people to ride a board in the new season. The Alpine terrain satisfies all longings when it comes to deeply snow-covered pistes and tough action. Blue and red routes offer the right choice for boarders who would like to further improve their style. There are black pistes waiting on Schmittenhöhe, and the Snowpark is the meeting place for all those who are looking for an extra dose of adrenalin.
The medium and high Alpine sports ground on Kitzsteinhorn has once again extended its capacities for the current season: the park has grown by an impressive 200 per cent from 10,000 to 30,000 square metres. The grounds are divided up into three different parks with varied skill profiles. At the 300 metre long Easy Park, beginners and advanced boarders practise the 'fun box', 'tabletop kicker' or 'styleroller' on two separate 'lines'. The Central Park offers even three different courses, with also a 'proline' for the elite of the sport among them. An eight-metre-long 'kinked box' and the 'step down kicker' of the same length demand full sporting prowess even of the very best riders.
But why go on that boarding adventure on your own? From 24th to 26th November boarders are meeting their equals in their thousands during the biggest winter opening festival in all of Austria: the 'ONE Snow Jam' will attract boarders from the four corners of the earth to Zell am See and Kaprun again this year. And they are not just coming to test the latest brand-name models or to see the show with the breathtaking style jumps. When night has fallen, the snowboard community makes off to Kaprun Castle to have a great party on three dance floors there. Cool boarder videos in the castle courtyard show what the next day might bring with regard to freedom, thrills, and sportiness.

General Information:
With its 14,000 beds and two million overnight stays a year, the 'Europa-Sportregion Zell am See-Kaprun' is one of the most important holiday regions in Austria. More than 40 activities like rafting, golf, and walking are offered during the summer months. In the cold season of the year rides in horse-drawn sleighs or snowshoe walks provide a welcome change. 56 chair lifts and cable cars take skiers to thick powder snow on 132 kilometres of pistes - snowboarders find an ideal terrain at the Snowpark on the glacier plateau of Kitzsteinhorn, 2,600 metres above sea-level. Here, skiing and snowboarding is possible even in summer. Moreover, the renowned German publishing house of 'Falk Verlag' has named Zell am See and Kaprun as the most family-friendly holiday region in Europe.
