Daryl Hayott and the documentary sceneCategory: Entertainment Article added by: DARYL HAYOTT
Brazilian recording artist Daryl Hayott has been desribed in many ways. Fusion bassist, accomplished drummer, composer, even partner at KEEP THE LIGHT records of NYC.
He also fronts a very busy nine member band KONFUCIOUSKLAN. The success of this indie band has been exceptional in a music world glutted with one hit wonders. Daryl says"The success of this band that in my opinion sets us apart is that first, we're family. Egos have to be left to your junk pile. Secondly, every member is well rounded with music fundamentals and respect for the craft". "Finally we love originality from within. Anyone can contribute a piece of music, if it's tight we'll cut it". With cds ROUGH EDGES, TRIBAL PASSAGES,LIVE IN ROMA 06, and two indie film soundtracks to date.
This brings us to the present. Daryl is now a principal in an documentary project with TOMMYLABS LLC.. The film which is untitled at this point focuses on the major label Industry's decline, and the trend of major talent joining the indie ranks in droves. It's this fact and the emergence of newer sounds breaking out from the commercial formula that is the direction of this project.
The filming launched Feb,2 2008 in New York City. The featured artist is a local vocalist Jenny Amlen. Jenny has recorded both Europe and the US. The radio spots are mainly pop. The problem is that Jenny isn't really a pop artist. She has an extensive Jazz backround yet, the station heads have packaged her spots based on her squeaky clean appearance. This is typical of an industry that has been locked into the commercial mindset. Daryl finds this an ever present problem of a bussiness headed for decay.
"The situation is not rocket science. The pursuit of the dollars and botttom line will drive those suits into isolation, like the ruins of the collesiums of Rome." says Daryl. So, I've asked a few of my friends in the majors as well as auditioned newer unsigned cats to show their journey and experiences with a film crew. Folks have to see that there's other flavors on the music menu. It's just our way of giving back to the source . Hopefully the newer indie artist will be inspired enough to make a change and impact the paradigm. It's not intended to be an epic. Just a reminder that there's life out here"
The documentary which will be distributed by Tribeca is due to be filmed in such locales as Brazil, Soweto, Africa the Netherlands, UK and of course the USA. Privately funded, the filming is on site with the artist. The work habits, financial trials, creative process, stress etc. will be filmed as is.
Daryl has long been an advocate of giving back to the art that has given a few of us so much. For further information contact his publicist at info@tgovan.com.
