Most people yearn for the day when they can have children of their own, and then they realise how much care and attention they require. Children aren’t as proficient as looking after themselves as grownups are, unless you’re a typical male living alone with a cooker that has more than two switches on. Therefore it’s always a necessity to have people employed in the child care sector to look after your little loved ones whilst you’re at work.

If you’re starting on the childcare education ladder then training to become a nursery assistant can earn you up to 12k a year. This is a good foundation for future years to come as the salary for fully qualified teaches doubles this. Those entering the world of nursery school teaching in England and Wales can expect to earn 20-29k a year on an incremental basis. This can rise as high as 34k for those with extra years of experience and expertise. In Scotland however, the initial salary will be in the region of 19k and will incrementally rise to 31k.

Should you decide that being a nanny is your chosen vocation â€"flying umbrella not included- then the hourly rate can be anywhere from £7-10 an hour depending on the employer as well as the region. Whether you’re living in or living out, the average rate is approximately £400-500 a week which is a good rate when considering that plenty of housewives do a similar job for nothing.

There are usually other positions available such as working with children in an after school club which can generally pay about £7 an hour. The pay rate may be trivial but if it’s part time and you enjoy working with children then it’s an ideal opportunity to put this into practice without the years of training that nursery school teachers undergo.

The childcare sector isn’t known for its astronomical salary, but the main prerequisite is that you enjoy working with children and have a fun, bubbly sort of personality. That and preferably owning your own flying umbrella.
