Almost Two Thirds Of Thrill Seeking Seniors Travel With Inadequate InsuranceCategory: Business Article added by: Staysure Insurance
A growing number of holidaymakers over the age of 55 are ignoring health risks and taking part in extreme sports such as bungee jumping, parasailing and water skiing. The bad news for many of these adventuresome seniors is that almost two thirds fail to take out any travel insurance, reports travel insurance specialist for over 50’s, Staysure.co.uk.
Research from the Association of British Insurers (ABI) revealed that out of 1,020 people aged over 55 surveyed, 20 per cent of respondents would take risks abroad that they would not even contemplate taking at home. One in 10 said they did not follow the safety advice they would give to their own children, while nearly one in five couples said they or their partner had already experienced an injury while on holiday. Studies have shown that over-55s make three times as many claims on their travel insurance policies as younger travellers, yet 65 per cent of those interviewed did not take out travel insurance for their most recent trip.
Staysure specialise in travel insurance for senior citizens and people who need to buy travel insurance to cover pre-existing medical conditions. The website and quote system has been carefully developed to meet the objective of offering its customers travel insurance in 3 easy steps. This has meant creating a highly intuitive question system, clear policy layouts, and tiered product offerings that will allow customers to opt out of certain elements of cover and individually tailor their own policies.
Staysure.co.uk provide comprehensive single trip insurance, annual multi-trip insurance as well as long stay travel insurance, covering up to 250 pre-existing medical conditions at no extra cost, and a choice of upgrades.
Ryan Howsam, Staysure’s founder says: "We‘re all for over 55’s having fun on holiday. But it is crucial that they make some simple preparations to help avoid encountering difficulties whilst abroad.” Ryan went on to say that therefore, the acquisition of a comprehensive travel insurance policy is a must, and added that ‘health scares abroad can be avoided by visiting a GP for a health check before embarking on that exciting adventure holiday’.
It’s a misnomer that only the young can have new experiences on holiday or take part in exciting and often rigorous activities. Just because you’re over 50 does not mean you have to put your surf-board into storage and hang up your wetsuit, but when it comes to deciding on a travel insurance policy, senior citizen travellers need to consider the consequences of having inadequate travel insurance.
