A Perfect Caribbean Trip: Get Away from it all with a Trip to CubaCategory: Travel & Holidays Article added by: Paul Collins
When it comes to choosing that perfect trip to the Caribbean, it’s hard to know where to start. There are just so many options! But for its combination of rich history, luxurious resorts, brilliant white beaches – and appealing prices – you can’t go too far wrong with Cuba.
Best Caribbean Trip – Best Price
And a Caribbean trip doesn’t have to be the preserve of the millionaire yacht brigade. In these days of online travel – and especially in such a competitive market – there are loads of great offers to be had. All major operators have a few deals up their sleeves – it’s just a case of hunting around.
Some of the most attractive prices on Caribbean package holidays, hotel deals and flights can be had with Spanish travel companies. The Spanish love nothing more than a good beach holiday, and when you combine this with their propensity to go to countries like Cuba where Spanish is spoken, it’s not surprising that prices on viajes Caribe (or Caribbean trips to you and me!) can be seriously competitive.
Compelling Cuba
The biggest island in the Caribbean, Cuba is sandwiched between the crashing ways of the Atlantic and the calmer waves of the Caribbean Sea. And this pretty much sets the tone for what is undeniably a land of contrasts.
First and foremost on any tourists’ Cuba trip must be Havana. Its Old Town, the remarkable ‘Habana Vieja’ is like nowhere else on earth: a time warp of a place whose atmospherically dilapidated mansions and grand old cars, constantly echo to the hum of music, it’s totally intoxicating.
Then, by contrast, a little across the island to the east, there are the upscale modern hotels of the resort of Varadero. Here, the sun beats down all day on the warm blue waters and blindingly white sand. Apart from the odd spot of water sports there’s nothing to do here, except do nothing, making the stress of work seem a million miles away.
Away from the resort of Varadero, Cuba’s beaches are no less awe-inspiring. The Cayos – Cayo Coco, Cayo Guiellermo and Cayo Largo – are all sensational. For the scuba diver or snorkeler, meanwhile, the waters of Maria la Gorda (at the westernmost tip) are full of stunning multi-colored marine life.
Away from Havana and Varadero
Cuba, though, has plenty more to it than just its wonderful capital, Havana, and its breathtaking beaches. On the southern side of the island, Trinidad is one of the most beautiful towns in the whole of the Caribbean. On the UNESCO World Heritage List for the unique colonial architecture that stretches back 500 years, it’s a truly captivating place.
Hiring a car and exploring as much of the island as time permits is strongly recommended. Driving through the tobacco plantations of Pinar del Rio and the gorgeous landscapes of Vinales is to see a side to the island that all too few tourists see: the ‘real’ Cuba.
