A Guide to Playa de las Americas: A Few Quick Tips for a Top Tenerife TripCategory: Travel & Holidays Article added by: Paul Collins
For years Tenerife has been one of the most established destinations for holidaymakers in search of a bit of sun. And to the south of the island, Playa de las Americas has had a central part to play in creating the island’s phenomenal reputation as a holiday destination.
Where to stay?
Naturally, given the island’s long-standing relationship with tourism, Tenerife hotels are amongst the very best in the world. But, that’s not all: with so many package holidays on the island, the prices of hotels in Tenerife are very reasonable (particularly in relation to their quality).
And Playa de las Americas is obviously no exception. One of the best value hotels in Playa de las Americas is the Catalonia Oro Negro. Very popular with Spanish holidaymakers who are looking for accommodation for a Tenerife trip (or as they’d say, viajes Tenerife) that won’t break the bank.
A great choice of four star Tenerife hotel is the Riu Arecas – held by many to be one of the friendliest on the island. A little more on the more luxurious side of the things, meanwhile, the Abama Hotel Resort is also a fantastic choice, particularly for those holidaymakers looking to play a bit of golf in Tenerife
Eating Out and Nightlife
Playa de las Americas is full of restaurants – whether it’s smart international cuisine or cheap and cheerful fast food bars. The former are often situated in the smarter hotels, while the latter are clustered along the seafront, gaudily lit and filled with hungry revelers.
After dinner, there are plenty of Playa de las Americas nightlife options. The area known as ‘the Patch’ is a good place to start the night before moving onto the wilder scenes of the Veronicas Complex and the Starcos Commercial Centre.
Shopping
As you’d expect, there are plenty of fantastic shopping opportunities in Playa de las Americas. From posh designer clothing to cheap electrical goods and even the scruffy Torviscas Market (on Thursdays and Sundays), there are any number of ways to splash your holiday money!
Glorious Year-round Sunshine
The weather in Tenerife is what makes people choose to go on a Tenerife trip. Even in December the temperatures are such that Northern European tourists are quite happy to stretch out on the beach in the warm winter sunshine.
And when it comes to beaches in Tenerife, the resort is essentially one long strip of hotels lining the black beach of ‘Las Americas’ (‘Playa’ means ‘beach’ in Spanish) so there are plenty of fantastic sunbathing spots to choose from.
Stretched out on the black volcanic sand underneath an eternally blue sky, it’d be hard to argue with the fact that if it’s a lazy beach holiday you’re looking for, you could hardly do better than a couple of weeks at Playa de las Americas.
